Introducing Stephen Burke


Canadian Blind Sports is very pleased to welcome Stephen Burke to the role of Director of Domestic Programs.

Stephen comes to us with a strong background in para sport and over 20 years of experience working with athletes who are blind and visually impaired, as well as other athletes in the Para system, from the grassroots through to the elite – high performance level. He has worked with a variety of sports. Early in his career Stephen was a teacher’s assistant working with a student who was blind.

Stephen is a Coaches of Canada Designated Charted Professional Coach and NCCP Level 3 certified cycling coach (road, mountain bike, track). Some of his roles in the sport system include work as a fitness consultant, a doping control officer for the Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport, and an international technical classifier of cyclists with a physical impairment. Stephen is currently a board member of the Canadian Paralympic Committee, and is a past board member of Coaches of Canada.

Stephen’s background will be a tremendous asset to Canadian Blind Sports in his role of Director of Domestic Programs which includes the areas of Physical Literacy development, Introduction to Sport, Recreational Sport, Competitive Sport (including National Championships), Coaches and Officials Development and Sport for Development. He will also serve as a link between our domestic and high performance programs, and with other organizations who work with athletes and participants who are visually impaired. Stephen is very enthusiastic about the position and looks forward to working on our staff team with our athletes, members, partners and stakeholders.
