Position: Director of Domestic Programs (based in Vancouver BC)

The Organization:
The Canadian Blind Sports Association (CBSA) is a federally funded National Sport Organization which governs the sport of Goalball in Canada. Goalball is a team sport, played by athletes who are blind. We also work to increase the number of Canadians who are blind or partially sighted and participate in the sport system at all levels. We work in partnership with a variety of national sport organizations and our provincial member associations to ensure opportunities are provided in a variety of sports for Canadians who are blind.

Our Vision is that Canadians who are blind will lead the world in Goalball and will enjoy full inclusion in all aspects of Canadian Sport for Life.

Job Responsibilities
• Domestic programs (participation programs through National Championships) as outlined in the organization’s strategic and operational plans
• Work in partnership with Provincial Members of CBSA to develop and evaluate participation and domestic initiatives.
• Work with other partners to develop and facilitate opportunities for Canadians who are blind – in a variety of sports.
• Support the development, implementation, and evaluation of recruiting, retention, and recognition programs for participants, coaches, and officials.
• Work within CBSA’s communications plan to promote opportunities to Canadians who are blind or partially sighted, and to the general public.
• Work as part of the team to implement and refine CBSA’s Long Term Athlete, Coach and Officials development pathways. This will include interaction with CBSA’s High Performance staff.
• Work in collaboration with key volunteers and committees, and organizers of National Championships and other competitions.
• Facilitate the development of coaching and instructional resources.
• Travel within Canada to network, and facilitate the development of domestic programs and opportunities.
• Other duties as assigned by the CEO

Preferred Qualifications:
• University degree in PE, Kinesiology, or a field related to physical activity or sport. Experience in administration, and in development of programs. Experience as an athlete, coach, or official; ability to work effectively in both of Canada’s official languages; experience with goalball or other blind sports and an understanding of issues affecting participants who are blind will be considered an asset.

• The person occupying this position must:
o be an effective communicator, both orally and in writing;
o have excellent relationship building skills;
o be able to work effectively in a team environment where team members have a diverse range of skills and experience;
o have good judgment
o have the ability to balance competing priorities effectively; and
o be able to meet timelines; and set priorities where deadlines may be short.
