Outstanding Performance for Team Canada at the 2013 IBSA Pan American Games and World Youth Championships


Canadian Men win Gold and qualify for World Championships

(Colorado Springs – July 22, 2013) – The International Blind Sports Federation (IBSA) Pan American Games and World Youth Championships wrapped up in Colorado Springs on July 15th, 2013.

The Canadian Men’s Goalball Team won gold defeating London Paralympic Silver Medalist Brazil 6-4 in the semi-final and finished off the tournament with a victory over the USA 8-6. This win for the men qualifies them for the 2014 World Championships in Finland.

The Canadian Women’s Goalball Team played a double round robin against the USA and Brazil with every team beating each other once ending with the USA and Brazil playing for the gold.

The Canadian Junior Men’s Goalball team went undefeated in the round robin, beating the eventual champion Japan. The Juniors placed 4th in the world losing the Bronze medal game to Brazil in throws.

The Canadian Junior Women’s Goalball team, comprised of four girls making their international debut, consistently improved each game of the tournament.

The Canadian Judo athletes combined to win three bronze medals.

Canadian Blind Sports is proud of all the success Canadian athletes who are blind or visually impaired are consistently achieving on the world stage. We acknowledge the excellent work of our Provincial Member Associations, and other National Sport Associations that service athletes who are blind or visually impaired.
