Team Canadian, IBSA 2018 Goalball World Championships


May 31, 2018 – The Canadian Blind Sports Association would like to wish the athletes and staff who have been selected to represent Canada in the Goal Ball World Championships in Malmo Sweden June 3-8 2018 safe travels and the very best in the tournament.

The Canadian Blind Sport’s Association would like to acknowledge the Government of Canada for their continued support of Goalball in Canada.

2018 Women’s Team (listed alphabetically)

Whitney Bogart, Position Wing. Whitney is from Thunder Bay, Ontario and is currently living in Ottawa. Whitney has attended the world championships in 2006 and 2011, the Parapan American Games in 2011 and 2015, and the Paralympic Games in 2012 & 2016.

Ruby Hammad, Position Wing. Ruby is from Kuwait but is now living in Calgary, Alberta. This is Ruby’s first time representing Canada in an international Goalball tournament.

Meghan Mahon, Position Centre. Meghan is from Timmins, Ontario and is currently living in Sudbury. She attended the IBSA Youth World Games in 2015 (winning gold), the 2016 Paralympic Games and the 2017 IBSA Pan American Championships.

Nancy Morin, Position Wing, a veteran Goalball player from Longueuil, Quebec, a member of the Canadian national Goalball team since 1997; she won gold medals the Paralympic Games in Sydney in 2000 and Athens in 2004.

Emma Reinke, Position Wing. Emma is from London, Ontario. She attended the IBSA Youth World Games in 2015 (winning gold), 2017 she attended IBSA Pan American Championships. This will be her first IBSA World Goalball Championships.

2018 Men’s Team (listed alphabetically)

Brendan Gaulin, Position Wing. Brendan is from Montreal – Laval, but currently living in Vancouver. Brendan represented Canada at the 2008, 2012 and 2016 Paralympic Games as well as the 2010 and 2014 World Championships.

Aron Ghebreyohannes, Position Centre. Aron is from Calgary, Alberta. Aron has represented Canada at the 2009 Junior World Student and Youth Games; the 2011 and 2015 Parapan Am Games and the 2017 IBSA Pan American Championships.

Bruno Hache, Position Wing. Bruno is a veteran Goalball player from Montreal, having competed at four Paralympic Games and two Parapan American Games.

Blair Nesbit, Position Wing. Blair is from Stony Plain, Alberta. He represented Canada at the 2016 Paralympic Games and the 2017 Pan American Championships.

Doug Ripley, Position Wing. Doug is a veteran Goalball player and athlete, having also competed in para-athletics as a member of Team Canada from 1993 to 1998. He represented Canada at the 2012, 2016 Paralympic Games, and the 2014 World Championships.

Ahmad Zeividavi, Position Centre. Ahmad is from Vancouver, BC. Ahmad has represented Canada at the  IBSA World Games in 2011, the World Championships in 2014, and the 2012 and 2016 Paralympic Games.

The support staff for Canada’s Goalball team are:
